Rempert This computer is an absolute great price for what it offers, and it delivers. I am a photographer who needed to upgrade to a computer with a faster processor and one that could handle the workload I put on it with CS4, and this one is great. Compared to my old laptop, this one zips right through loading enormous raw images and and processing in photoshop with ease. I spent a while looking to find a computer that offered everything this one does in a price range I could afford and also had a bigger screen size. My old laptop was a 17", so this one was a little bit of a downgrade in regards to screen size, but its still good enough and an acceptable trade off for the specs of the computer itself. I also do a bit of gaming, WOW particularly, and it runs better than my husband's computer in regards to graphics..which he isn't necessarily too happy with. :) As for two other reviews about some negative aspects of the laptop: One reviewer mentioned the DVD drive was extremely noisy. It is a little loud, I will attest to that, but I wouldn't say anywhere near as loud as I took from their review. I did not find it overly disturbing or distracting, and I could certainly hear the sound of the music or movie I was playing over it. Another reviewer mentioned how he hated the computer because of the keyboard. I think the keyboard is great. I have no trouble feeling which key is which. Its bigger than normal though, or maybe, just the letter/numbers on each key are bigger than normal. I felt like I had ordered something designed for an older person or someone who may not be able to see well at first glance because of the size of the letters. The "L" is approx. 4-5cm long. So that was something I sort of laughed about at first, but now I don't notice it at all. I am picky about how my 'keyboard' feels, and normally would go to store and test out all the laptops, and if the keystroke didn't feel good to me, I would reconsider a purchase of any particular laptop. But I really like this keyboard, and I like the back-lighting, which I didn't have previously. Overall, I think this computer is a steal what what you are getting. 32 of 36 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful Laptop By R. McElveen I have had this laptop for over a month, and I absolutely love it. It is a replacement for my Dell Laptop that has decided to move onto greener pastures. This is my first Toshiba, and I use computers for work all day. This is a wonderful laptop it has plenty of power thanks to the i7 Intel Processor, which was the main selling point for me. I needed a laptop that would hold up and be able to handle the Adobe products (Dreamweaver and Photoshop) that I use regularly and so far no issues at all. The speakers are very good, considering this is a laptop and the speakers are built in. I LOVE Windows 7 it is SOOOOO much better than Vista! The Webcam is wonderful and does a very good job as well. Overall, considering this is a budget priced laptop, when you factor in the i7 chip, 500GB HD, and 4GB DDR3 RAM. I am very pleased and I without any reservation recommend this product and I would purchase it again if I had to do it over. 40 of 46 people found the following review helpful. Awesome laptop. A must have. By Paul M. Zahorosky All right... this may take a while. Let me start by saying I have abstained from owning a laptop computer my entire life and have strictly been using and building desktop PCs. For the past year and a half I have been going to school for graphic design. Now I spend so much time in front of a computer that I just had to be able to separate myself from my desk. Granted, being a graphic designer, I get a lot of flak for not purchasing a MacBook, but I just couldn't fathom the inflated price for a machine with lower performance (why can't I get a MacBook with a Quad

Toshiba REGZA 32HL67U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Toshiba 32HL67 32" Regza LCD HDTV

Amazon Sales Rank: #43847 in Home Theater Color: Black Brand: Toshiba Model: 32HL67U Dimensions: 23.32" h x 31.52" w x 11.23" l, 43.00 pounds Display size: 32 ATSC/NTSC & QAM Digital Television Tuners CineSpeed Panel with Response Time of less than 8ms Panel Resolution - 1366 x 768 PixelPure Hi-Bit12-Bit Digital Video Processing Digital Noise Reduction

Toshiba's Regza line of TVs marry state-of-the-art technology to hip design. One feature that sets them apart is PixelPure 14-bit digital video processing, which creates more than 4,000 levels of color gradations for a smooth, natural-looking picture without posterization or image banding. Another benefit is a fast response time. Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen's response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and with fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. This technology is housed in a black gloss cabinetry that is sure to fit well with most any decor. The 32HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This qualifies it as 720 progressive-line HDTV, which is a noticeably better picture than standard definition sets, but not as detailed as the 1080 HD sets available. Its 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen. The Value of LCD TVs Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 32HL67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 35 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens. Connections The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It can also make these connections to your audio and video components: HDMI inputs: 3 ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2 PC monitor input: 1 VGA 15 Pin D-sub S-video input: 1 A/V inputs: 2 Audio The unit's SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit's speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They're powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don't add significantly to the size of the set. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels. SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system. 32-inch wide screen A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 32-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 32HL67 is ideal for viewing distances of seven to 12 feet. What's in the Box 32HL67, stand, 4-item universal remote, stand, warranty and product manuals.

Bridges I just purchased this TV after looking at a wide range of TVs to go with my dual-tuner TiVo Series 3 player and an older progressive scan Toshiba DVD player, and I have to say that I couldn't be happier with my selection. I let the TV do the upconvert from 480i from the TiVo and the result looks quite acceptable (assuming you're not 3 feet away), and the HD detail on HD channels is spectacular. The Toshiba has a wide range of picture boxing settings to take care of properly framing the upconverted 480p DVD signal, and a lot of color settings so that tuning the color with Avia-derived settings I found on the internet helped as well. I have my own Avia disc on order to fine-tune the picture myself, as well. The main products I was comparing against were all other 720p 32" TVs. 1080p resolution seemed silly to pay for in this size, since you can't see it, though the brands that put out 32" 1080p TVs (e.g. Sharp) seemed to have better video processors in the 1080p models and skimp a bit in the 720p models. Specifically, I compared against the Sony Bravia 2010 S-Series (not the XDR2), Sharp Aquos 32D43U, and the Samsung 3253, as well as the Olevia 532/332s as a bargin alternative. The Olevia was by far the least expensive, but its picture quality seemed comparatively much worse, not to mention external styling. In the store I looked, the Sony and Toshiba were solid across the board, the Sharp had the best flesh tones (color setting issues with other TVs?), and the Samsung the best contrast for dark areas (e.g. air contrails behind a slow-motion spinning baseball). Given that the Toshiba was about $150 cheaper than the alternatives at the time, I opted for it and couldn't be happier. 67 of 70 people found the following review helpful. Toshiba TV's - Simply perfect By G. CALICO If you are looking for a LCD HD TV but don't know where to start, look to Toshiba first. I read in a leading consumer magazine that Toshiba spends more money (on an average of 5 to 1) on research and development than any of it's other competitors (Example: Sony, Toshiba, JVC, Panasonic, etc....) and the REGZA is a result of that research. After a very detailed 2-3 months worth of research, I decided on the 32HL67. Toshiba electronic products (especially TV's & DVD players) have always performed very well for me. I will be utilizing this TV in my bedroom and it's a good thing that I am. This television is completely amazing and is by far the best value for a very good HDTV for the bedroom. The design is truly a beautiful piece of electronics. It has a sleek curve stand with a piano black frame finish. The picture and the set-up right out of the box was brilliant. I utilize DIRECTV HD and the colors and picture quality is simply brilliant. The HD programming is very sharp with a very clear and very distinctive display. The native resolution of this unit is 720p, but this HDTV will display all formats 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. However, it only receives 1080p when connected via a HDMI port. This TV comes with 3 HDMI inputs, plus a input port for a computer and two HD color components inputs. The Toshiba is very easy to setup with its user friendly onscreen menus. All the speakers are located along the bottom of the screen, therefore helping to reduce the total width of the unit. I only had approximately 33" to fit a TV into and this one fit perfectly. The DIRECTV gentlemen installing my HD satellite dish and setting up the HD receiver commented that the fit looked nearly perfect to him. This LCD is very thin and fairly lightweight (approximately 40 pounds). Easily handled by one person. The mount for the Toshiba 32HL67 was very easy to attach to the bottom of the unit, which is how I use mine. I'm sure this TV would be just as easy to use as a wall mount unit by installing the mount onto the rear of this unit. Very impressed 113 of

All you need to do is to connect BRAVIA Theatre Sync capable products to each other via one HDMI cable. The rest is easy. For instance, the One Push Play function activates by touching the play button on the remote and BRAVIA Theatre Sync takes over from there. The BRAVIA Home Theatre System and TV turn on. The DVD input on the BRAVIA Theatre system and TV activates. The TV mutes. And finally the DVD plays. There are two other BRAVIA Theatre Sync functions - One-Push Theatre Settings, which provides optimal picture and sound settings for movies and One-Push System Shut Down for turning off the entire home entertainment system. BRAVIA Internet Video Link The first DMex product to be introduced to the market is the DMX-NV1 BRAVIA Internet Video Link module (sold separately). BIVL, as it is affectionately called, can stream available Internet video from select content providers directly to your TV with a broadband connection3 without the need for a PC. S-Force Front Surround S-Force Front Surround is a virtual surround sound experience made possible using just two front speakers in select BRAVIA models. To accomplish this, Sony spent several years studying how our ears work. By understanding exactly how we recognize the origin, direction, volume and timing differences in sound right and left ear, Sony was able to create complex audio processing that delivers dynamic virtual surround sound without the need to bounce sound off walls and back to the listener. HDMI and PC Connectivity Designed for maximum versatility, Sony’s BRAVIA S-Series Digital LCD TV line is equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. In a dim room for example the screen automatically reduces brightness making it much more comfortable for viewing. Freeze Function Sony’s Freeze Function is a useful function that allows you to temporarily freeze the picture in a separate screen while the programming continues to display. This comes in handy when you want to copy a recipe, phone number, etc. that flashes too quickly across your screen. Simply touch the "Freeze" button on the remote control and copy the details down at your convenience.

By Twiddles42 No stupid "Dynamic contrast ratio: 8000:1" gimmicks that merely flicker the backlight when the set's AI decides it ought to be, which is disconcerting and not to mention misleading in terms of real display quality... Just a true, real contrast ratio that allows numerous shadow and hue detail that you're not going to see so clearly in any competitor's 32" set. No washed out or dull colors, either - this Sony is a worthy replacement for dead-end, electricity guzzling, heat generating CRT technology. And I looked at 6 brands, looking at every nuance, black level, color saturation, sharpness, detail, features, menu functions, et cetera, noting all TVs were at out-of-box conditions. I'd love to namedrop the worst ones, but that's a no-no... Here's a hint - those models are "inexpensive for their size". :) Sony costs more, yes, but the difference in visual quality is formidable - worth every penny. Detail is exceptional, and sharp. Other models may not be as bright, may give edges jagged lines, colors may be flat, and so on... If you are a videophile, this is THE set to get. Every setting under the sun can be changed (brightness, 'picture' (contrast), tint, et cetera). And this monitor also, much to my surprise and delight, includes filters to make DVDs (MPEG2) and broadcast signals look less grainy/noisy and sharper. You bet I'm a happy couch potato. Casual viewers would probably be satisfied with any competing model, but why? As with lower quality screen technology, the hardware quality is bound to be lower as well. You do get what you pay for. If you read up on competing models where people say "it broke after 1.5 years", you'll see a pattern forming... And if you looked at the competing model next to the Sony, you'd be tempted to buy the Sony anyway. Even if the cost difference was a mere $150. I also apologizing for sounding like a shill for Sony. I'm not. One small addendum (06/30/07): The stores' labels say it's 1600:1, the sticker on the left side of the monitor claims 8000:1. This TV set does alter the backlight's brightness - solely on the level of ambient light in the room, not the incoming signal. Either way, I've still had no negative issues with visual quality on DVD playback, NTSC TV, HD broadcast, or PC display (if your computer cannot handle 1366x768, try 1280x720 if possible.) 71 of 71 people found the following review helpful. Simply the Best in Every Way! By Mighty Mac We're in the "senior citizen" class and were looking to replace our 27" Panasonic tube TV (which did serve us well for more than 10 years.) Being in our 70s did not mean I didn't THOROUGHLY check out and compare EVERY high-rated 32" LCD HDTV on the market--at Sears, Circuit City, Wal-Mart and other brick&mortar stores. I searched on-line, read technical reviews, and paid particular attention to what buyers said about the products. The hands-down winner for us (and apparently all accompanying buyer-reviews) is this awesome Sony product. It is in our opinion simply the best in every way. Period. ("Consumers Report" magazine recently also ranked this product best in its category.) [...]Now we enjoy a superb television picture with startling sound clarity. I like it when a plan comes together. 97 of 102 people found the following review helpful. fantastic television! By soulelement I am a first-time buyer of a HD-LCD and just picked this television set up yesterday. Overall I am very pleased with the performance I am seeing. I went through two Samsung television sets: the first being the Samsung LN-S4095D 40" 1080p LCD and the second being the Samsung LNT3253H 32" LCD HDTV (after realizing I needed something smaller). Both models are full of video-tearing and audio-muting issues that Samsung has failed to resolve, so I decided that before any of these problems severely affected me, I would return them before the 30-day

For this much money for a 47" LCD, I expect a lot. The colors were saturated and the blacks were dark, just as you'd expect from the LED backlit set. But the blooming or haloing created by the local dimming is just too much. There aren't enough LEDs in the array. So when white text scrolls on a black background like credits you can see a halo around ever letter or word. Then as they scroll, the LEDs turn on and off accordingly and you can very easily see this "pop" of the LEDS turning off. You then begin to notice the same haloing around faces in dark scenes. Pretty soon it is all you see. You can turn local dimming off, which essentially turns the LEDs into an always on backlight like all CCFL based LCDs. But then you lose the dark blacks benefits, and soon you realize you paid 50% more for a feature that you aren't using anymore and now your set looks about the same as all the others at far less cost. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Impressive By Raja Jaja I've owned this TV for a week now. I haven't experimented with white scrolling text to look for the blooming and I almost don't want to. After working with multimedia encoding and 3D graphics, I've discovered that ignorance is sometimes bliss. Once you notice something, you can't stop yourself from seeing it all the time (like macro blocks from MPEG compression, motion "judder,", etc.). I'll also agree with other reviewers that you really need to play with the advanced menus in order to tune the picture. "Vivid" and "standard" are nice for cartoons and anime but are too over-the-top for anything else. The auto-adjusting setting is a nice idea but in practice is annoying because it pops up a logo to tell you it is adjusting the picture. I was watching one night and every time I turned a table lamp on or off, the picture would adjust (which would be fine if it didn't annoy me with an on-screen logo to tell me about it). This TV is no Samsung (LED). I can definitely tell the difference in the local showroom and the Samsungs are very svelte. But for this price, I don't think you can find anything comparable. The LED backlighting definitely increases the visible contrast; you'll see blacks that you just won't see on a non-LED LCD. I haven't seen the blooming or LED "popping" that other reviewers have mentioned, but even if I turn off the dynamic lighting, the LED still gives me brighter lighting, less heat and (theoretically) longer life and greater reliability. Plus, I get bragging rights for a while. "Check it out; the very latest in big screen HD tech!" Speaking of bragging rights, all of my friends have commented about how wonderful this TV display looks, even people who have bought Samsungs and Bravias in the past year. Considering that I bought this TV at a price that was the same as the non-LED Samsungs, I'm quite happy. All the technical negatives noted about this TV are probably spot on, but for the price, I don't think I could have done nearly as well with any other TV. I bought this TV as sort of a memorial to my brother who died just this past Christmas. He was very into big screen TVs and the latest tech. I think he'd be happy to see his nephew watching Bakugan in HD glory. 16 of 20 people found the following review helpful. Amazing Picture By Robert Rubeck I am not sure why the last reviewer discussed the 47' tv they found for far less, that is true but that's because the other TV's wont produce the picture quality of this TV and this TV blows all normal tv's out of the water. I saw this TV calibrated in the magnolia room at best buy on the wall next to a pioneer pro elite and the picture quality was in my eyes BETTER. I have been waiting to pull the trigger on a new HDTV until I could get more HD content and I am glad I did. As one of the reviewers posted

Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-40V3000 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

BRAVIA V-Series televisions are where Full HD 1080 starts. Two sizes, 46" and 40" diagonally, define what Full HD 1080 (1920 x 1080) televisions are all about. Performance functions like Live Color Creation (featuring the WCG-CCFL backlight) and the 10-bit panel display assure picture quality and performance. The BRAVIA Engine¿ EX full digital video processing system includes DRC-MF v1.0 technology, which upconverts 480i video signals to a 1080p equivalent. Immerse yourself in outstanding color reproduction and 1080p picture quality with the KDL-40V3000 LCD Flat Panel HDTV. BRAVIA V-Series televisions are where Full HD 1080 starts. Performance functions like Live Color Creation and the 10-bit panel display assure picture quality, while BRAVIA Theatre Sync offers easy one-button operation for enjoying a Sony A/V system. Add a sparkling new black picture frame design, quiet operation, and you have the new BRAVIA V-Series HDTV. Full HD 1080p Resolution When it comes to high-definition TV the pinnacle of performance is achieved by using 1920 x 1080 display panels. And BRAVIA V-Series televisions have them. Full HD 1920 x 1080 panel resolution with over 2 million pixels8 (more than twice that of 720p HDTV) is exactly what you need to reproduce the 1080p content that can be delivered by our cutting edge 1080p Blu-ray disc player. And working with BRAVIA Engine EX everything from standard definition and high definition is upconverted to 1080p6 for a picture so real it's like you're actually there. 10-bit Processing and 10-bit Display While it's great to state that a TV is capable of creating billions of colors it's a whole lot better when you have a display that can actually display them. That's the logic behind Sony's 10-bit processor and 10-bit display. Sony follows 10-bit processing with a 10-bit panel, allowing 64 times the levels of color expression than an 8-bit panel. What that translates to is smoother transitions from color to color and subtle color changes faithfully reproduced. BRAVIA Engine EX Full Digital Video Processor The BRAVIA Engine EX full digital video processing system is based on Sony's renowned BRAVIA Engine video processing system. It has all of the same functions of BRAVIA Engine plus the added ability to upconvert 480i standard definition signals via Digital Reality Creation Multi Function v1.0 technology for a picture with more detail and definition. Live Color Creation System featuring WCG-CCFL Decades of television know how allow us to realize that an LCD TV is more than just the panel; it’s actually a system. Uncompromised picture quality starts with combining carefully chosen components and circuits to optimize system quality, among these are the color creation and processing functions. That’s what Live Color Creation technology is all about. It starts with the BRAVIA Engine EX video processing system, which enhances primary colors and corrects half-tone colors for natural overall color. Next, a WCG-CCFL backlight using Sony’s phosphor formula delivers a specific spectrum of light designed to work with our specially formulated color filters. The combination of these three components creates deep, deep blues and natural greens for overall colors that draw you right into the picture. Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) Function Sony’s Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) builds on our excellent on-contrast ratio performance of 1600:11. A Dynamic Contrast Ratio of up to 13,000:12 is achieved by using real-time image processing to adjust the contrast along with optimizing backlight levels. But rather than focus on the "numbers", Sony focuses on actual picture performance avoiding exaggerated blacks where detail can be lost. ACE translates to blacker blacks in darker scenes, as well as better shadow detail in other scenes for a difference that you can see. 24p True Cinema (24p Input Capability) Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Seizing on an opportunity, some studios are taking a purist approach and encoding high definition video content such as Blu-ray Disc in 24p. Sonywisely takes advantage of this by including 24p output capability on their BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc player. It makes sense that select 2007 BRAVIA TVs will include 24p input capability. The benefit? Images are smooth and natural looking. Once you experience 24p video it will be hard to view video without it. DMex - Ready (Digital Module Extender) Sony's Digital Media Extender (DMex) ready televisions offer a digital connection path for the addition of optional modules like the new BRAVIA Internet Video Link.7 With innovative DMex expansion capabilities featuring the Emmy award winning XMB user interface, select 2007 models are not merely TVs, but powerful entertainment platforms that not only meet your needs today, but expand easily to meet tomorrow's needs as well. Xross Media Bar (XMB) When was the last time you saw an on-screen display that was fast, fun and easy to use? Sony's award-winning Xross Media Bar (pronounced Cross) interface provides a logical and fast way to access set up menus, user controls, and more. The on-screen display comes to life by pushing the XMB menu button on the remote. Navigation through the menus is smooth and fast. BRAVIA Theatre Sync Sony created BRAVIA Theatre Sync to go beyond basic digital audio and video transmission. Based on the HDMI-CEC function. BRAVIA Theatre Sync will be included on select BRAVIA Theatre home A/V systems and components. This useful function reduces the hassle and time consuming job of powering up, routing signals, etc. to the simple push of one button. Sony calls this nifty feature BRAVIA Theatre Sync. Here's how it works. Want to play a DVD on your Sony A/V system? Easy, just push PLAY on the BRAVIA HDTV remote and everything is taken care of for you. Even when the system is off! Want to change from TV sound to digital surround sound through your Sony BRAVIA Theatre A/V system? Just one push of the Theater Sound button on the remote and voila, surround sound through your system. Want to power down everything once you've finished enjoying it? Push one button and the TV and A/V system powers down. BRAVIA Theatre Sync helps make things a whole lot easier to operate. S-Force Front Surround-2 Built around a sophisticated set of Sony algorithms, the S-Force Front Surround enhancement function generates realistic surround sound from the two speakers in the TV. Unlike some other "virtual surround" technologies, sound does not need to be bounced off of side walls or other surfaces to hear three-dimensional sound. No matter what the size or shape of the room it's possible to hear sounds from behind you. HDMI and PC Connectivity Designed for maximum versatility, Sony's BRAVIA V-Series LCD TVs are equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide superb image and sound reproduction. BRAVIA V-Series TVs include (3) HDMI 1080/60p inputs. The PC input 4(HD-15-pin) offers easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA V-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor. ATSC Integrated Tuner Receive local, over-the-air digital broadcasts of high-definition network programming; no set top box or monthly fee required. VESA-compatible Mounting Holes Free up space. Mount your television on the wall with confidence; attaches to optional VESA-compatible wall-mounting brackets (sold separately).

As Always - SONY, No Baloney By James Cooper I've been buying Sony TVs for more than 30 years, and they rarely disappoint. The 40" Bravia is no exception. Last year I bought the 70" SXRD model for my living room, and the 40" is for the bedroom. Many televisions are high quality and prices are dropping, so why get the Sony? Picture quality is excellent, especially in high def. Sound quality is very good without a home theater setup. Not always the case with flat panel TVs with small bezels. Remote is well laid out and easy to use (although it does lack backlighting, but I have no trouble finding the buttons I want in the dark). It's easy to change between the 4 programmable picture settings or screen aspect ratios. Sleep timer button is right up on top when your ready for bed and is in 15 minute increments. It has 2 HDMI inputs for easy connection of compatible devices and several other inputs. You can customize the display to choose between only the inputs you are using and label them appropriately (so it's easy to switch between my TiVo, DVD player, TV and cable box, and hide the other inputs) There's a zillion other settings that I haven't figured out all of yet, but most are relatively intuitive (except PnP, which has me baffled so far). I got the flat panel LCD because it uses less power and generates less heat than a plasma, and won't burn-in (although plasmas have improved). The screen doesn't reflect as much, and has a wide viewing angle. For viewing from about 6 feet, the 40" size is perfect. Lots of other things I could say about this TV, but it's all good. You can't go wrong with this model. Also highly rated in Consumer Reports, the consumer's bible... Amazon shopping tip: Amazon offers price protection for 30 days from date of purchase. After you buy this, put it in your cart again and check your cart regularly for a month. The price goes up and down almost daily. When you go to your cart you will be notified of price changes. If it goes down, grab the phone and call for a credit. I paid $1630 a couple of weeks ago and the price has gone as low as $1450, so I've gotten $180 in refunds. Delivery and unpacking are free, and combine with excellent customer service, making buying from Amazon a no-brainer. I'm delighted with Sony and Amazon for this purchase. update 3/2009: Forget my last comment. Amazon no longer, sadly, offers 30 day price protection on purchases. Advice now is to go to camel camel camel dot com (leave out the spaces). A great site for tracking Amazon price history. 50 of 53 people found the following review helpful. Great TV By Carl Moore Very good picture quality, no glare problems and no discernible viewing angle problems. The Amazon price was several hundred dollars less than any other place I checked, ie Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, Sony and even better than Army/Air Force Exchange service. The delivery was painless. The delivery compary called and made an appointment, delivered, unpacked, placed the unit where I wanted, helped with initial on screen setup and hauled the trash away. I recommend buying an extended warranty from Sony instead of the third party warranty available through Amazon. You have something like 30 days after purchase to get the warranty from Sony. All in all, a great TV and a great buying experince. 36 of 37 people found the following review helpful. Good value By J. Moore I've been really pleased with this HDTV. I had read that one of the weaknesses of LCD monitors is that they tend to blur fast moving images (like in action movies) so I held out for a model that had a 10 bit processor and 8ms response and I have yet to see any blurring in either movies or video games. Another complaint I've heard about LCD is that they have difficulty producing deep blacks. Again, this has not been the case with the KDL-40V3000. To get a picture I was really happy with took a little work with the

The main benefit of the XMB is that users can navigate through on-screen menus without taking their eyes off of their TV. The DVD input on the BRAVIA Theatre system and TV activates. The TV mutes. And finally the DVD plays. The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface.

Nice TV, even if a bit pricey By T-Rev Never really concentrated to much on the sony products because of the prices of them. For the money, you can get a larger sized samsung like a 32", or for the same size TV you can save big bucks by going with a westinghouse or other bargain priced TV's sized at 26" which is ideal for a bedroom. After purchasing a 26" westinghouse and not being extremely happy I bought a 32" Vizio. Still not satisfied, I left the bargain TV basement and took the plunge and bought this TV. Wow, what a difference. At $300-$400 dollars more than the westy, I'm not sure if it's that much better if tied to a budget, but if you've got it (cash), get it (sony). As far as specs go, read the description, but rest assured this TV is really nice. Sound is better than expected for a 26", menus are nice, picture is B.A. On XBOX 360, the best and most graphically demanding game is by far Gears of War. This TV makes it look incredible. The darks are dark enough in the spooky parts unlike other TVs I've tried out which looked washed out and lame. This set really makes the whole thing look alot better. I have been switching between the 3 presets (vivid, cinema, standard) and haven't made any tweaks yet exept for turning on the dynamic lighting. I'm sure you could make the picture even better with some adjustments but it's unnecessary. 23 of 23 people found the following review helpful. great LCD TV By ALKJ I am very happy with the sony lcd tv. I narrowed down the 26" lcd tv's to a couple and checked them out at local stores. I liked the picture of the sony over samsung which was my 2nd choice. plus the sony did not have large speakers on the sides or bottom making it too large for the small opening in my entertainment center. the price was comparable and sony quality has always been good for me. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Owned this for a week now. By Oh_Please This LCD is great, i was nervous because it is the first flat screen that the wife and I have ever bought. We set it up and it was a breeze, plugged our DVD player in and it also worked great. The picture quality with standard TV is very nice, but the HD picture quality is superb. I had to adjust the picture settings out of the box, but that is to be expected. Over all, I am very, very pleased with this product and Amazon's quick delivery. See all 53 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 37 of 38 people found the following review helpful. Currently the best 32" LCD for the price By Arm&Hammer Pros: - Best part of this TV is the Over the Air (OTA) tuner to get free public broadcast TV stations. Used a paper-clip as the antenna and received over a dozen HD/digital stations with perfect reception in the Washington DC metro area without any dropouts. No cable for me, literally. - Excellent picture, especially after playing around with all color options. The color can be adjusted to anyone's preference, because it has separate color adjustments for red, blue, green, yellow, magenta and cyan, as well as, preset adjustments. 1080p display is great for graphics or if using it with a computer. I starred at a lot of 720p displays before ordering this one, for me, I can see better detail (especially background and graphics) with a 1080p display from 8' away. - Comes on in 2.5 seconds. Try timing how long it takes to turn on any other manufacturer or previous model year TVs. Channel changes almost instantaneous about 1-2 sec, great for channel surfing. With OTA HD/digital stations this was a challenge for a lot of TVs. - Sound quality is very good and loud if you need it. At 20% it's loud enough to fill a medium sized room. - Low price. If you search enough you can get it at a lower price than last year's 720p models on clearance or refurbished. Cons: - Specs on this TV are not always accurate, different specs. on Toshiba's website vs. owner's manual vs. on the box. For example when I weight my 32RV530U it is 26.5 pounds, which is better for me. I wonder what other specs are off. - Some fuzzyness with fast moving objects, maybe due to refresh rate (5-8ms)or 10 bit panel or 12 or 14 bit processor (listed in owner's manual. Whatever the true specs are this TV looks great either way for TV watching or used as a computer monitor. 24 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Very Pleased By N. Kamal I received the TV 3 days after ordering it from Beach Audio via Amazon. Arrived safe and sound, no dead pixels either. So far I am very pleased with the set. It took about 10 minutes to set up. As others have discussed it is a great looking set. I was hesitant to buy a TV with that black piano finish, because originally I thought it to be a little tacky, trendy and cheap looking. But Toshiba made it look good! It's nowhere near as shiny as I thought it would be. Now for the picture. It arrived with the picture set to "Sports" mode. This was too bright and over saturated for my taste. I switched to "Standard" mode and the colors are richer without being overly warm or loosing crispness. The set has a picture mode for "Movies" as well, and it really does give the display a movie-theateresque character. As for SD display, Id rate it at about 8/10. A relative's 42" 1080p Sony Bravia XBR displays these channels the same as or a little worse than the 32rv530u. Comcast HD movies on demand look incredible through the Motorola SCH3200 box with HDMI output. Overall, for this price, this is likely the best 32"-- and besides the Sharp, the only-- 1080p LCD on the market. I am anxiously awaiting my PS3 so I can bask in the glory of a 1080p signal. 13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Picture By Tweaker I've owned this set for several weeks now and am very impressed by the overall picture quality. The images are sharp, the blacks are reasonably deep, the colors are well balanced, and there is no backlight bleeding. I recommend turning down the backlight to 50 or less (mine is at 40) to get the best picture. Sound quality is only mediocre but I use mine with a 5.1 surround system, so that is not a problem for me. I don't know how this set compares to Sony or Samsung because those sets will not fit in my cabinet, the Toshiba does - which is another plus for people with tight spaces. BTW, the dimensions given on the US web site for the set are incorrect - they slightly overstate the

Cabarcas I give this TV a 5 because of it's amazing features besides quality in picture(either using regular coaxial Dish signal or using a low end HDMI Zenith upconversion DVD at 1080i)and sound. I have tested and compared it with 3 other 32"" including the Sharp Aquos 32, and this tv performs better. Lets add in the feature that auto selects inputs and the fact that without setting up codes to my remotes it automatically worked with my Zenith DVD remote and my DISH universal remote. The TV signal looks outstanding. Top notch performance and quality By lindguini Pros: Excellent image quality, attractive design, good menus, numerous control settings Cons: None significant. Comments: I did a lot of research looking for the best 32" LCD HDTV. Our primary use is to watch DirecTV and DVD movies and so excellent image quality (including low black levels), various video inputs, and plenty of display settings (for image calibration) are important. We also wanted a TV that has an attractive exterior design and that included a built-in HDTV tuner. Our target price was $1000. After reading dozens of reviews, I was leaning towards Panasonic or Sharp. Samsung and Sony also have several good models, if a bit pricey. I decided to check them all at our local retailer (BB). The store had all of their LCD TVs lined up together allowing for a good comparison. I compared 32" models from Panasonic, Samsung, Toshiba, Sharp, Westinghouse, and a few others. The Sharp had a good image (after some tweaking) but it was bulky and its "piano black" finish reflected everything in sight. The Sharp's menu system looked like something from a cheap PC monitor and did not speak of quality. The Panasonic and Toshiba were decent but their silver plastic housings were unattractive. The Samsung and Sony have excellent image quality but with side-by-side comparisons, I could see no standout performance that justified their higher price tags. And here was the unexpected surprise: the Westinghouse 32w6. Of all the TVs on the shelf, this one had the cleanest design and excellent, natural looking image quality. In fact, after tweaking several of the other TVs, the Westinghouse was as good as the Sony or Samsung. Its images are crisp with very low black levels thanks to an obviously high-quality LCD panel, ATI Xilleon 240H video processor, and adjustable backlight. It's also a very slim design with a thin perimeter frame (solidly constructed) colored a matte-finish dark gray/black with a dark silver trim along the sides and bottom. It looks and feels like a quality product. The menu system looks like graphic arts professionals designed it -simple, elegant, clean, with just the right cascading menu effect. The remote control is very effective and includes individual buttons for selecting each video input as well as backlight adjustment. Besides having all the normal image controls, the Westinghouse has a 50-step adjustable backlight and a user-defined color temperature setting. The "Warm" color setting is equivalent to D6500 color temperature (optimum for home theater). You can set up custom labels for all your video inputs (it has at least one of each type) and you can even turn off the blue LED power light on the front panel if you find it distracting. This was the best set on the shelf, in my opinion, so I bought one on the spot. Setting up the 32w6 was a breeze since the pedestal base is already installed when you pull it out of the box (the unit is well packaged, by the way). It was plugged in and running in five minutes. After a few set-up screens, I was watching brilliant

Plug in your PC and up to 7 other components—including HDMI™—to create the full entertainment experience. And enjoy the quality and style that can only come from a Bravia™ TV. Feature List BRAVIA Engine™ Full Digital Video Processor: BRAVIA™ V-Series LCD televisions use Sony's BRAVIA Engine™ full digital video processor for crisp and clear images. Several special picture enhancement technologies are integrated into the processor to create better gradations and details, enhance contrast, dynamically improve color, and reduce image flicker. Full HD 1080: There are a lot of ways to define high-definition but BRAVIA Full HD means you’re getting the best resolution that high-definition has to offer consumers. With Sony BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs, Full HD 1080 means 1920 x 1080 pixels and 1080p video inputs. Your lifestyle demands the best in high-definition and with BRAVIA Full HD 1080 products you get it. 1920 x 1080 Panel Resolution: When it comes to high-definition TV the pinnacle of performance is achieved by using 1920 x 1080 display panels. And BRAVIA V-Series televisions have them. Full HD 1920 x 1080 panel resolution with over 2 million pixels (more than twice that of 720p HDTV) is exactly what you need to reproduce the 1080p content that can be delivered by our cutting edge 1080p Blu-ray disc™ player. And working with BRAVIA Engine™ PRO everything from standard definition and high definition is upconverted to 1080p for a picture so real it’s like you’re actually there. Live Color Creation System: Decades of television know how allow us to realize that an LCD TV is more than just the panel; it’s actually a system. Uncompromised picture quality starts with combining carefully chosen components and circuits to optimize system quality, among these are the color creation and processing functions. That’s what Live Color Creation is all about. It starts with the BRAVIA Engine™ PRO video processing system, which enhances primary colors and corrects half-tone colors for natural overall color. Next, a WCG-CCFL backlight using Sony’s phosphor formula delivers a specific spectrum of light designed to work with our specially formulated color filters. The combination of these three components creates deep, deep blues and natural greens for overall colors that draw you right into the picture itself. High Contrast Ratio: Sony uses a dynamic backlighting system called ACE (Advanced Contrast Enhancement) on BRAVIA V-Series TVs. ACE automatically senses the APL (Average Picture Level) of the video signal and adjusts the intensity of the backlight for improved contrast. VESA test and measurement methods are applied yielding a contrast ratio of used 7000:1. This number represents the widest possible ratio between black and white contrast levels. Sony also measures their BRAVIA televisions with a more stringent method that measures the amount of black and white levels that can appear on the screen at the same time. This method yields a more real world measurement of 1300:1 HDMI™ and PC Connectivity: Designed for maximum versatility, Sony’s BRAVIA V-Series LCD TVs are equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide matchless image and sound reproduction. BRAVIA V-Series TVs include (2) HDMI 1080/60p inputs. The PC input (HD-15-pin) offers easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA V-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor.

Excellent HDTV By Photo Phan After reading reviews of various LCD HDTVs, my main concern was how well the set would display standard definition content, which still constitutes the majority of what is available on cable. Reviews of Sonys seemed to indicate they did a better job of displaying 480i signals, and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by how good standard def looks on this set...comparable or better than the tube set it's replacing. Digital channels look great, too, and of course the high def channels are fantastic. DVDs from a progressive scan player also look great. A few points to consider when shopping for a set like this: 1. Don't get one that's too big for the viewing distance. Use 3 times the diagonal size as a guide. I sit about 10 feet away from the screen, so the 40 inch set is ideal. There is a big difference watching this TV from 4 ft. away vs. 10 ft. Sit too close (or with too big a screen) and you'll see all the grain and imperfections in a 480i signal, and even the pixel shimmer on a high def signal. Sit farther away, and the image looks much, much better. 2. Standard def in 4:3 looks better that way than trying to zoom it out to fill the wide screen. By doing so, you introduce distortion to the picture and also enlarge the 480i signal, which reduces the quality. This set has a black border, so watching a 4:3 image with the black bars on the right and left is not distracting. 3. Not all high def content is provided in 16:9 format, and the quality of the signal may vary. Some high def stations look better than others. 4. This set has backlight control that allows you to turn down the backlight brightness. This helps to improve black levels quite a bit. 5. Don't spend $80-$100 on an HDMI cable. I ordered one from Amazon for around $15 bucks and it works just fine. Digital signals are not as subject to noise and interference like an analog signal, so no need for an overpriced cable. This TV is pretty easy to set up. The menus are fairly easy to navigate. You can tailor your settings for each input. You can have up to 8 different inputs, and the TV allows you to label each one and also to skip any that are unused. The remote is basic and doesn't allow you to control any other devices, but on the plus side, is simple to operate. The delivery service by EGL (Eagle) was fine, and their delivery estimate was accurate. They contacted me by phone when the TV arrived to schedule a time for delivery. They arrived on time, unpacked the set, placed it on the stand, and removed the packaging. The delivery guy also helped me move my other set. The one minor problem I had was with the tracking number. Apparently, the number had been used previously a couple of years ago, so the tracking on the Amazon site was incorrect. I had to go to EGL's web site and enter it as a reference number in their tracking query in order for my order to show up. 116 of 124 people found the following review helpful. Best LCD on the Market...Plasma beater By Gordong11 I must say I am shcoked how good the picture and even the sound are on this LCD. For comparison, I also just bought an Hitachi 42HDT79 Plasma, and this gives the plasma a good showing(in 1080i mode..the hitachi has a native reso of 1024 x 1080 ie. 1080 lines of reso). Both are great. This Sony has superior contrast, unlike most LCD's, almost plasma like. Also the standard definition cable channels are reproduced better than any LCD on the market by far...not even close. I have a 1080P upconverting DVD player by Samsung DVDHD960, and it produces spectacular images on the TV. I have nothing bad to say about the TV. DO NOT USE AN HDMI CABLE RUNNING FROM AN HD CABLE BOX! The Cablevision HD DVR's HDMI, produces a much inferior picture when compared to using component cables. Red, Green and Blue will make your dreams come true, HDMI will make you want to cry. An HDMI connection from an

I had a Sharp LC42D62U and then upgraded to the LC46D64U recently; the original LCD was great but there are several improvements made to the new 64 series. The 64 series LCD's are incredibly slim and have a smaller bezel. They really look awesome wall-mounted due to the small profile. No other LCD is currently available that is this slim and has this picture quality. The 64 series TV's also add several tone and picture corrections, an analog PC input, a USB 2.0 port for firmware upgrades, an RS-232 control port and three HDMI 1.3 inputs. The picture quality actually seems to be slightly better which is amazing because the 62 series looked fantastic (specifications indicate a better backlight system). I am a professional AV systems design engineer and part of my job is to keep up on new TVs. This unit is currently the best we've seen for a consumer model and we specify it all the time. I highly recommend this unit or any of the 64 series. 62 of 64 people found the following review helpful. great LCD, Great Technology, Very Thin By I. international Compared to Samsung 1080p with tons of reviews and which I returned simply because of lack of picture formats this TV rocks. In short, Samsung provide you with great and bright LCD panels but with zero technology. so a letterbox directtv movie on a 32 inch Samsung will be actually 22" viewing area on the screen. Try to use the picture formats such as wide and zoom and you get blurry and distorted picture which is to me impossible to view. This is were Sharp step up with it's technology. Picture formats are all viewable so you can super stretch a 4:3 picture without almost any distortion. The only con is lack of brightness (450 nits compare to 500-550 in other popular LCDs) but the blacks are superior. You can increase the brightness by playing with the contrast to full but then it is not like the Samsung whites but less eye soaring. I found that the Samsung brightness is great but after a while watching it sores on your eyes and the Sharp auto dimming feature is great for movies and it is fully controlled by the user. Aside to that, this TV is probably the thinnest and idle for hanging on the wall. The connections on the back are extremely well thought after for wall hanging. It seems that what people complaint about in the previous models in series 62U is now fully addressed in the 64U. I am perfectionist and recommend this TV. Most of my comparisons were for regular directtv broadcast. HDTV and DVDs shows naturally prefect. The colors are well defined as oppose to Samsung and you have tons of options to program it to your taste. Sound from these little speakers is the best comparing to not a few LCDs I had. Very well done! It needed 2-3 days to break-in and some customization. It is professional TV for professional users but very user friendly and within no time anybody can easily program the brightness, contrast, color and other cool features to its liking. This TV is also ready for the future and I find the 46" great size and very well balanced. 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Decent picture quality, but has problems overall By Luke Eelman This TV has pretty good picture quality, a slick design, and intuitive menu, however all this is ruined by a major design flaw -- BANDING. Google "sharp acquos banding" is you don't know what I'm referring to. It's basically horizontal and vertical bands of uneven uniformity on the screen. Shows itself the most during panning shots (hockey games, wall pans on HGTV, etc., etc.) It's too bad, because I really liked this TV, but the banding ruined it and I ended up returning it. Bought the Samsung 46A550 instead and it is by far a much better set. (And cheaper too through Amazon.) See all 48 customer reviews...

By Peter (This review is for the Toshiba Regza 40XV645U LCD television.) Original rating: If price were no object: 4-Star Rating Price considering: 5-Star Rating Update 29Jul2010 (see below): Following the replacement of the Main Board, I now give this TV a 5-star overall rating. Update 15Jul2011 (see below): The Closed Captioning is definitely a problem with this model, and reduced the rating to 4 stars. Original review: This is a great TV! All of us in the family really like it. Even the piano black narrow frame around the screen looks great (about 1.5" wide at the top and sides and 3" at the bottom). Even though the frame is a glossy black finish, it surprisingly doesn't disturb the daytime viewing experience at all. We wanted a second TV in our home for a brightly lit room and we were also limited to a 40-inch screen size because of available space, so we ended up choosing the Toshiba Regza 40XV645U LCD TV. (Also see my review of the Pioneer PDP-5080HD Plasma TV in August 2007, if you are interested). Because of our requirements for our second TV to have a bright picture and not to be sensitive to burning-in issues, we decided on an LCD TV. We compared the Toshiba 40XV645U to the following currently locally available 40-inch LCD (and LED backlit) TVs: Samsung LN40B610 / LN40B650 / UN40B6000 / UN40B7000; Sony KDL-40Z5100 / KDL-40XBR9; Toshiba 40RV525R / 42ZV650U; and LG 42LH30 / 42LH40 / 42LH55 / 42LH70. When price was considered, no other TV came close to the Toshiba 40XV645U. Absolutely nothing else! We did not want a shiny, glossy screen (we were afraid of daytime reflections), so many of the above sets were eliminated because of that. The Toshiba ZV650U has a very nice but glossy, reflective screen and cost $1,500 CAD at the time. The RV525R does not have the 120Hz frame rate or the Resolution+ feature. With the XV645U you can turn the frame rate On (120Hz) or Off (60Hz) (we leave it On all the time) - called the ClearFrame feature in the Owner's Manual (you can download a PDF copy from Toshiba.ca before you buy the TV). Also the sound on the RV525R is inferior to that on the XV645U. And the RV525R actually cost more than the XV645U on that day! We were very impressed with the high-contrast Samsung B650, B6000 and B7000 models at first, and they also have a 1-Tuner Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature, but the highly reflective glossy screen (Ultra Clear Panel), very poor detail in black images (Samsung is famous for "crushing" their blacks), and triple the cost (for the B6000 and B7000), made us dismiss these sets. The Samsung B610 was not bad, but still had the black-detail problems, and the actual colour richness and backlight strength visibly looked better to us on the Toshiba XV645U (and at the time the Toshiba cost $950 CAD vs. $1,500 CAD for the B610). But the Toshiba XV645U does not have PIP, which we do miss (we especially like to watch Split Screen images - available on the Samsungs only). In our opinion, the Sony Z5100 is a much better value than the XBR9 ($2,000 CAD vs. $2,700 CAD at the time), and we really couldn't see any improvement in either the picture quality or the sound by upgrading to the XBR9. The LH30 and LH40 LG models definitely did not look as good in the showroom as the Toshiba XV645U (lack of depth in white and black colours) and also cost a little more. The LG LH55 and LH70 both have glossy screens and cost about 50% more than the Toshiba. LG too has problems with image details in black. In addition, the viewing angles were quite poor with the LG models. And we were also worried about servicing issues with the LGs (we were warned by some sales persons). At the end, it came down to deciding between the Toshiba XV645U (at $950 CAD) and the Sony Z5100 (at $2,000 CAD). (I know, it sounds a little funny that we were deciding between these two sets at the end with

From the Manufacturer Manufacturer's Review (April 7, 2009)Toshiba takes its REGZA Series LCD HDTVs to the next level with 2009's ZV650 full 1080p lineup, which feature a number of technological advances in both audio and video to make the most of your home theater experience. Fans of sports, video games, and fast-paced action movies will be wowed by the ClearScan 240 advanced frame rate technology, which greatly improves on previous 120Hz LCD panels for fluid, natural motion. The amazing high-definition picture is powered by the new PixelPure 5G 14-bit video processor, and the set includes Dolby Volume technology for a consistent audio level when changing the channel or when a program switches to commercial. The 2009 Toshiba REGZA ZV650 lineup features ClearScan 240 advanced frame rate technology, Resolution+ upconversion, and Dolby Volume audio leveling. The REGZA ZV650's stylish Deep Lagoon Design. It includes a PC Input for use as a PC monitor or gaming TV, and--unlike other smaller TVs--it also features a Gaming Mode to shorten the signal to screen time for faster game controller response. Other features include Toshiba's DynaLight dynamic backlight control for deeper black levels, a fast 8ms response time CineSpeed LCD panel, and four HDMI digital inputs for simple high quality connection to cable/satellite boxes, DVD players and more. And this HDTV, like all Toshiba 2009 TV models, meets Energy Star 3.0 certifications for reducing energy consumption by up to 25 percent compared with standard TVs. In addition to this 55-inch 1080p REGZA model, the ZV650 lineup also includes the 42-inch 42ZV650U and 47-inch 47ZV650U models. (Learn more about what size TV should you get.) Key Features 1080p Full HD Display: With Full HD, there’s no need to scale down a 1080 signal. With twice the pixel resolution of 720p HD models, Full HD creates the pinnacle in picture quality. ClearScan 240: 240Hz screen technology vastly improves on 120Hz LCD panels by combining with LED backlighting to create significantly clearer full motion video. (Learn more) CineSpeed LCD panel has an 8ms response speed necessary for cleaner high-action home theater images. A wide viewing angle ensures that you'll have the best seat in the house. DynaLight Backlight Control utilizes advanced image processing to monitor the brightness of each video frame, and adjust the backlight intensity accordingly. This precision creates seamless transitions with deep blacks for increased detail and depth analysis. Native Mode restores the size of the picture by the 3-5 percent that is generally lost during the normal over-scanning that occurs on traditional sets. Built-in ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital tuning allows for tuning of standard cable channels as well as off-air digital broadcasts, in addition to digital "cable-in-the-clear" broadcasts. Cinema Mode 24 fps (3:2 Pulldown): This HDTV performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. Color Temperature Control: Most Toshiba televisions provide three user-selectable Color Temperature settings affect the sets overall white balance. The "Warm" setting reduces the color temperature to an NTSC standard 6500 degrees Kelvin and delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room. "Medium" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased. CrystalCoat high contrast screen coating: Stops ambient room light refl ections from washing out the picture, creating up to 30 percent better contrast in bright rooms. REGZA-LINK makes controlling multiple components easy. Just connect your player to other compatible devices using an HDMI cable, and then control them using one remote--no additional programming or setup required. TheaterWide: Sets with TheaterWide modes are ideal for displaying HDTV signals as well as enhanced for widescreen television DVDs. TheaterWide 1: Letterboxed image is digitally expanded 33 percent horizontally and vertically. Useful for reproducing Academy Standard (1.85:1) formatted software. TheaterWide 2: Letterboxed image is expanded 33 percent horizontally and 42 percent vertically. Particularly of use when viewing narrow letterboxed images originally filmed in Panavision or CinemaScope. TheaterWide 3: Letterboxed image is expanded 33 percent horizontally and 24 percent vertically. Can be utilized when displaying letterboxed images that incorporate narrow bands at the top and bottom of the picture. Gaming Mode enhances the gaming experience by reducing the amount of time it takes for the signal to travel from the game controller to the TV. Channel Browser allows you to easily scan through the last 32 channels you have viewed, with screen images for the last five channels displayed, by channel, by favorites, and by input, at the touch of a button. Channel Labeling allows you to put station call letters on the screen along with the station numbers, so you always know what channel you're watching. What's in the Box REGZA 55ZV650U HDTV, removable pedestal stand, remote control (with batteries), screen cleaning cloth, printed operating instructions Learn More ClearScan 240 Toshiba is taking fast motion picture quality one step further with ClearScan 240. ClearScan 240 combines an advanced 120Hz scan rate with Toshibas new Backlight Scanning technology to create a 240Hz effect. This innovative solution improves picture clarity making action-packed movies and sports more crisp and clear than ever before. Compared to standard 60Hz, or even standard 120Hz systems, this new technology provides significantly clearer full motion video for a better home theater experience. PixelPure 5G 14-Bit Internal Digital Video Processing The heart of this Toshiba REGZA HDTV is the processing power of Toshiba's fifth generation engine, PixelPure 5G. With a 14-bit internal digital video processor, gradation is increased, creating smoother, clearer images. Ongoing enhancements like the new 2D Chroma enhancement, 2D Luma enhancement, dynamic sharpness and adaptive noise reduction mean that PixelPure continues to lead in processing technology. Resolution+ Super Resolution Technology But if PixelPure 5G is the heart, then Resolution+ super resolution technology is the soul, bringing images to life with complex image enhancement. Formerly referred to as SRT, the next generation Resolution+ is a highly-regarded technology that overcomes an industry-wide issue of lower picture quality when watching less than Full HD sources. Using a proprietary processing system, Resolution+ improves 480i, 480p, and even 720p image detail for enhanced video quality when watching DVDs, TV channels, camcorder videos or even video games that output less than Full HD. Not just simple scaling, Resolution+ uses complex image correction to enhance the detail of each image, making everything feel like HD. AutoView for the Best Settings Automatically Toshibas enhanced AutoView feature helps ensure the best possible image quality at all times of the day. By combining an ambient room light sensor and incoming video content monitoring, AutoView automatically sets most of the TV picture parameters for you. You don't have to worry about a picture that isn't set bright enough for the afternoon sunlight or eye strain from an overly bright TV in a darkened room. In addition to setting brightness, contrast, gamma, sharpness and color saturation, the newly enhanced AutoView can also adjust color temperature to adjust for changes in the color of home lighting or the surrounding walls. Hear the Difference with Dolby Volume One of the biggest issues with TV audio today is inconsistent volume levels when changing channels, or with commercials. Dolby Volume addresses this common problem by applying a sophisticated psychoacoustic model of human hearing. This system delivers a level listening experience by automatically bringing down the volume of louder stations or commercials or raising the volume of lower channels or commercials to maintain the preferred listening level. Unlike other systems, Dolby Volume does this while retaining the perceived audio dynamics for consistent sound quality. The new REGZA with Dolby Volume makes the annoyance of inconsistent TV volume levels a thing of the past. Dolby Volume models the complex nonlinearities of loudness perception, compensating for the human ear's changing sensitivity as gain levels are increased or decreased. Advanced psychoacoustic-based signal analysis and processing properly balance low, middle and high frequencies, maintaining all the nuances and impact of the program's audio regardless of playback volume level. Importantly, Dolby Volume applies independent loudness adjustments to different frequencies and channels only when needed. The integrity of the overall mix remains intact; spectral and spatial balances are fully maintained. Plugging In Your Content With more and more content available from the Internet, Toshiba's ZV650 lineup makes it easy to play downloaded movies and TV shows without an external content player. With the USB port, you can view your JPEG pictures, listen to MP3 audio, watch MPEG-1 & 2 video and even watch DivX Video--all done through a USB hard drive (or even a USB thumb flash drive). There is also an SD Card Slot that allows easy viewing of JPEG digital pictures by simply taking the memory card from the camera and placing it in the TV. Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room? With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. Minimum size = Viewing distance/3 Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

I have a 40" Samsung 550 TV as well. A family member who lives next door has a 46" Samsung 650 series so we we're pretty familiar with the Samsungs and that is what we were looking at when purchasing this one. After looking at the prices for 52" and 55" Samsung 650 series I kept coming back to look at this one as it seemed like an incredible value compared to those. I was actually concerned because the price was significantly lower. However, I have owned Toshiba, Hitachi, and JVC TVs in the past and have been pleased with the Japanese TV companies in the past so I bought this from Amazon sight unseen. I had read a lot of reviews on the net on the Toshiba Regza models and most appeared to be positive. The TV gets shipped via an air freight company and was delivered to my house as scheduled. I elected to not have them do anything but help get the TV in the house and unboxed and setup everything myself. Packaging was standard as was the same as the Samungs. (remove the white clips from the bottom of the box and lift the top off) I placed it on a solid stand and did not feel the need to attach the recommended safety straps. It is solid on the pedestal and is not going anywhere with the location I have it at. When I first powered on the TV I was very happy to see a prompt asking me if the TV was being used in a store or at home. I chose home for the obvious reason. Many manufacturers crank up the brightness and contrast to make them look better at the store. Unfortunately, this is the default out of the box experience for other manufacturers. I remember having to turn these down on the Samsungs. While this was a small thing, it was greatly appreciated. Here are my experiences with other areas of the TV: APPEARANCE The TV looks beautiful. A solid black border would have suited me just fine. However, this TV has a light gray gradient on the edges with a checkered pattern. From the viewing position you really do not notice it and it certainly is not a factor when watching TV but it looks like art in that regard. There is an illuminated Toshiba logo centered at the bottom of the TV. If the illumination bothers you then you can disable it in the preferences. Overall it looks a little nicer than my plain black Samsung. PICTURE Excellent picture. Sharp crisp detail. I played Blu-Ray discs through a Samsung 3600 player I had connected to it and they looked awesome. When I purchased this TV from Amazon I got a free Toshiba BDX2000 Blu-ray player with it and moved the 3600 to another room and used it after a couple of days. No difference in the picture between the two. I've also watched much HD programming via satellite as well as some SD material too. I hooked my Roku up and streamed SD content from it as well. Regardless of source, the TV performs beautifully. The detail is razor sharp, the colors look true, and the picture continues to impress me. I watch a LOT of movies via HD premium channels as well as Blu-Ray discs. I was really concerned about an LCD over a plasma in this regard but have not bit disappointed in this regard. My other major concern was that movies would look more video-like as opposed to movie-like. On the 46" Samsung my personal opinion is that things appear to look more video-like. On the 40" Samsung not so much so, but neither look as good as this Toshiba in my opinion. Of course sitcoms and your standard TV fare look great on the Toshiba as well. Bottom like is that I think this Toshiba looks better for movie buffs. I also noticed that the depth of field on the 40" and 46" Samsung do not seem as accurate as on this TV. Depth of field looks normal here and perspective looks accurate to me. I don't see how anyone can knock anything with the picture on this set. It has a good as anything I have seen in the stores. GLARE Toshiba says
